At the regularly scheduled Kingsburg City Council Meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, City Council approved moving forward with a 0.75% General Sales Tax Measure to be brought to the public for a vote on June 5, 2018.
A 0.75% sales tax increase is projected to provide approximately $700,000 annually to the City of Kingsburg. Kingsburg City Council voiced that they would want to ensure there is an oversite committee, annual reporting for the funds and a 10-year sunset clause. Funds are proposed to be used for police, fire, EMS, parks and recreation/sports facilities.
City Council members thanked residents for their feedback throughout the process. The Council has been examining different forms of revenue generation since early 2016. Numerous public meetings, workshops and resident feedback forms have been completed in evaluation of the final recommendation. The Council will continue the discussion during their regularly scheduled meetings in January, 2018.
The Kingsburg City Council meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 1401 Draper St.
