At the special Kingsburg City Council Meeting on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, City Council approved moving forward with a 1% Public Safety Tax Measure to be brought to the public for a vote on June 5, 2018. It is labeled 'Measure E.'
A 1% sales tax increase is projected to provide approximately $940,000 annually to the City of Kingsburg. Kingsburg City Council voiced that they would want to ensure there is a citizen's oversite committee, annual reporting for the funds and a 10-year sunset clause. Funds will be used for public safety including: police, fire, and EMS.
City Council members thanked residents for their feedback throughout the process. The Council has been examining different forms of revenue generation since early 2016. Numerous public meetings, workshops and resident feedback forms have been completed in evaluation of the final recommendation.
The Kingsburg City Council meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 1401 Draper St.
