Meet the City Manager

Alexander J. Henderson was unanimously appointed to the position of City Manager by the Kingsburg City Council, beginning his duties on January 13th, 2014. As the Chief Administrative Officer of the City, he is responsible for the the City's all-funds budget and over 100 full-time and part-time employees. He is a member of the City's Finance Committee, Economic Development Committee, RDA oversight and the Kingsburg's Lions Club Board of Directors.

Education


Mr. Henderson received both his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His continuing education includes executive level certification from the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia-Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the University of Oklahoma's Economic Development Institute, and the Local Governance Summer Institute at Stanford. In 2022, he received his Public Sector Leadership Certificate through Cornell University.  He also completed leadership coursework as the youngest graduate ever to participate in Leadership ICMA (Class of 2013).  

Achievements 


Alex is a recipient of California Central Valley's  "40 under 40" Award. This organization recognizes 40 professionals that have shown an abundance of expertise and professionalism in their field and all under the age of 40.  Kingsburg has been designated a  Citizen Engaged Community for using technology to efficiently and effectively maintain as much contact and involvement with the citizens. In addition, the City has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Award for several consecutive years.

He received the Credentialed Manager designation by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) in 2016.  In 2017, he received the Early Career Leadership Award in memory of William H. Hansell, Jr. 

He has presented to both local and national audiences in areas of engagement and the use of social media, including at the Alliance for Innovation Transforming Local Government Conference and International City/County Management (ICMA) Conference.  He is a recipient of the Public Policy Forum Award for Effective Use of Technology, and the ICMA Community Program Award for Sustainability, as well as for efforts related to performance measurement.
